Meg, Calvin, and C.W. walk to the vegetable garden that night to meet the Teacher (Blajeny), who explains that what they are seeing is a cherubim named Proginoskes, not a dragon.It turns out that C.W. is sick, and Blajeny and Proginoskes are on their way to heal him so that they can restore the universe's balance and save it from the terrible Echthros. To have this struggle and rescue Charles' life as well as the balance of the universe, Meg, Calvin, and Mr. Jenkins (grade school administrator) must travel inside C.W.
